Homeless task force’s final report is adopted

City commissioners unanimously adopted the final report from the city’s Task Force on Homeless Services and agreed to create a new advisory board on homelessness.

Commissioners thanked the task force for nearly three years of work on the issue, but said the formal adoption does not mean that the city will implement or fund all of the task force’s recommendations, which include a new homeless shelter.

“I think adopting the final report as a guide is perfectly acceptable, but I don’t want anyone to be misled about our intentions,” said City Commissioner David Schauner.

The task force’s list of recommendations had an estimated price tag of nearly $5 million. Task force members assured commissioners Tuesday that they had no expectation that the city would fund all of the recommendations. Task force members said many of the recommendations will need to be funded through private donations or grants.
