Guardian Angels founder testifies at Gotti’s trial

After waiting 13 years, Curtis Sliwa finally told a jury his tale of being ambushed in a taxi by mob thugs allegedly acting on orders from John Gotti’s son.

In his trademark Bowery Boy parlance, Sliwa, 51, repeated his version of the June 19, 1992, attack, which for years drew guffaws from police who have heard his fanciful stories before.

Several feet away sat defendant John A. (Junior) Gotti, accused of ordering the attack after Sliwa criticized his mob boss father.

Like “a jack in the box,” a man popped out from under the dashboard of the cab Sliwa had just hailed in Greenwich Village – firing twice at the Guardian Angel founder-turned radio personality, hitting him in the gut with the second shot, he recounted.

“I felt the most horrible pain I had ever felt in my entire life,” Sliwa said. “I realized I could die.”

Prosecutors said the attack was ordered by Gotti to silence Sliwa for bad-mouthing his Gambino boss father on his radio talk show.

Gotti, 41, is charged with kidnapping Sliwa and other various crimes. He has denied involvement in the Sliwa attack.
