Isolated storms possible today, tonight

Students who have to be out walking today might run into to some rain between classes.

“If you have room in your backpack, you might want to pack an umbrella, just in case,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We do have a chance for an isolated thunderstorm today,” Schack said.

At 7:30 a.m., the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 72 degrees, with partly cloudy skies.

“It does feel kind of sticky out there, with the relative humidity 91 percent and the winds classified as calm,” she said.

Today’s high will reach 81 degrees in the late afternoon, she said. Skies will be mostly cloudy through the evening, with winds from the east at 3 to 5 mph, Schack said. The National Weather Service says the chance of thunderstorms today and tonight is 40 percent.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 62 by early Tuesday morning, with a continued chance for isolated thunderstorms, Schack said.

“There are no big changes in the forecast on Tuesday,” Schack said. “We can’t rule out an isolated thunderstorm for Tuesday.”

Tuesday’s high will be 81, she said.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 63 degrees, with the high reaching 85.
