Former Lawrence residents Monique and Jay Marquette, Overland Park, announce the birth of their son, Cooper Joseph Marquette, born May 24, 2005, at Shawnee Mission Regional Medical Center in Overland Park. He has a sister, Anna Katherine Marquette, 2. He is the grandson of Dr. Monte and Joy Clumsky, Lawrence, and Gerald and Patty Marquette, Coffeyville.

¢ Richard and Lori Diers, Baldwin, announce the birth of their son, Reece Alan Diers, who was born Aug. 9 at Olathe Medical Center.

He has a brother, Blake.

Grandparents are Stan and Bonnie Herrenbruck, Coffeyville, Gary Diers, Baldwin, and late Donna Jill Farrell.

Great-grandparents are Loren and Jean Brown, Bonner Springs, and Richard Diers, Concordia.

¢ The third annual Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant picnic dinner for all former or present employees and families will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at Kim's Barn, 934 E. 2100 Road, south of Eudora. The doors open at noon.

Those planning to attend are asked to bring a dish to serve at least eight people according to last name, as well as bread, drinks and table service. Tables and chairs are provided. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

Those with last names that begin with A-F are asked to bring a dessert; G-P a main dish; and Q-Z vegetables or salad.

A donation will be taken to cover expenses like postage and utilities.

¢ Bryan Fishburn, Lawrence, graduated from Hutchinson Community College in May.

¢ Zachary Joseph Parks, Lawrence, was named to the honor roll for the 2005 spring semester at Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C.

¢ Susan Rickman was elected board president of the Social Service League on June 28 during the organization's meeting at Signs of Life bookstore. Others elected to office were Tony Peterson, vice president and Jane Stewart, treasurer. Jane Rank was elected to the board of directors. Those in attendance were Susan Rickman, Tony Peterson, Jane Rank, Tracy Lee, Ron Schneider and Lorraine Hilleary-Alber.

The Social Service League serves low-income families and individuals of Douglas County. Among their current programs are The Vision Fund, providing eye care and glasses for children and adults in need, and The Shoe Fund, paying for new shoes for the school children of the 497 school district.

¢ Benjamin Timson, Lawrence, received a Bachelor of Science in athletic training from Oklahoma State University after the spring semester.
