Another steamy day ahead, possible rain this evening

Today will be warm and sticky, but relief is coming.

“Another hot and humid afternoon,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “Lots of clouds this morning, but we should have plenty of sunshine later in the day.”

At 8:15 a.m. today, the temperature was 77 degrees and the humidity was 79%. “Not much rain left except in Leavenworth County,” said Schack. “Lawrence is staying relatively dry.”

Schack said most of the systems were passing to the north and south, and will leave only partly cloudy skies for most of the day. Today’s temperature should reach 96 degrees, with a very isolated chance of storms in the afternoon. This evening there is a greater possibility of thunderstorms, with an overnight low of 68.

Saturday may see some rain but will be cooler today, with a high of 86. This will signal some relief from the heat, as Sunday and the start of next week will have slightly below-average temperatures, in the mid to low-80s.
