Don’t expect much sunshine today

On the first day of school for Lawrence Public Schools, students can expect overcast skies.

“Not planning on seeing a lot of sunshine today,” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist. “There’s even the possibility of a few isolated showers this afternoon.”

At 8:10 a.m. today, the temperature was 73 degrees and the humidity was 91%. The skies were cloudy and there was patches of fog in some areas.

“Lots of tropical moisture over the Midwest,” Reith said. “Tonight we’ll have a better chance of rain, although the stronger systems will stay north of I-70.”

Reith said that the temperatures will increase into the mid-80s later today, with the best chance of precipitation coming overnight. The evening low will be 69.

The area will warm to 90 on Thursday and 93 on Friday when a cold front should move in from the north. The weeked will be in the 80s, with a chance of rain.
