University Bridge Club announces the winners of the Aug. 6 game. Hosts were Roy and Wilma Cropp, Vera Hadl and Mary Kanous.

Blue winners were: Alice Akin, first; Iva Koleber, second; John Golden, third; and Mary Jo Spotts, fourth.

Pink winners were: Gladys Dight, first; Bebe Huxtable, second; Aileen Bocquin, third; and Willie Stoltenberg, fourth.

¢ The Kaw Valley Quilt Guild will play host to Ruth McDowell, a quilt artist who has exhibited her quilts nationally and internationally since 1981.

The guild will meet at 7 p.m. Monday and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt. Guests are welcome.

Monday’s program will be “Progressions and Diversions: My Development As A Quiltmaker.” McDowell will give an overview of her work.

Tuesday’s program will be a slide lecture that focuses on McDowell’s current work. McDowell makes about 20 quilts a year.

¢ The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club’s Aug. 3 game was directed by Virginia Seaver. Five and a half tables played a stratified game and a Howell movement. Phyllis Brownlee and Virginia Eddy won first in A, followed by Virginia Seaver and Lois Clark at second and Yvonne Hedges and Paul Heitzman in third. Mona Bell and Carol Ball were first in B, and Betty Spalsbury and Margrete Hartman were second.

¢ The Friday Afternoon Bridge Club’s Aug. 5 game was directed by Don Brennaman. Seven full tables played a stratified Mitchell movement. The North-South pairs were led by Jean Otney and Wanda Durbin, who placed first in A and B. Julia Brooks and Phyllis Brownlee were second in A and B, followed by Lynn Hui and Harry Shafer.

Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro led the East-West pairs, placing first in A. Clara Elkins and Bob Dailey took second in A and first in B and C. Helen and Robert Huffman were third in A and second in B and C.

¢ The Monday Evening Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement at 13 tables directed by Virginia Seaver.

North-South pairs were led by Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough, who were first in A. Lois Clark and Harry Shafer won second in A, followed by Frances Vogel and Alice Leitch, who won third in A and first in B and C. Phyllis Brownlee and Madelyn Jenks were second in B, and Cathy and Mike Blumenfeld were third in B and second in C.

The East-West pairs were led by Julia Brooks and Jerry Sloan, who took first in A. Donna Johnson and Dave Piro were second in A, followed by Ed Howard and Addie Nyquist. Don Brennaman and Sam Pierron won first in B, and Ann Thompson and Grant Sutton were second in B and first in C. Carol Ball and Mona Bell were third in B and second in C.

All bridge games are played at the Kaw Valley Bridge Center in the I-70 Business Center. Evening games start at 6:45, Wednesday and Friday afternoon games start at 12:30, and the Sunday game starts at 1 p.m.
