Rumors of fake KU parking permits lead to lookout

Rumors of fake Kansas University parking permits being sold around Lawrence has campus Parking Department employees on the lookout.

The parking department first heard the rumor Tuesday but has no indication that it is true, assistant director Mary Olson said Wednesday. Nevertheless, employees are being especially watchful for fake or improper permits, she said.

The only parking permits that are valid are those issued by the Parking Department, she said.

“Even if it is a real permit and hasn’t been forged and somebody at a bar or at a party sells you one, chances are good that it has been stolen or lost,” Olson said.

If people are caught with an improper permit, their vehicles will be towed, they will be issued a $100 ticket and banned from parking on campus for a year, Olson said.
