¢ Harmon-Thomas Strikes Gold: Lawrence’s Alexa Harmon-Thomas won gold medals in the long jump and triathlon in the U-9 division of the National AAU Junior Olympics track meet in New Orleans. Harmon-Thomas finished fourth in the 400. In the U-10 division, Lawrence’s Bridgette Berry was fourth in both the long jump and triathlon and eighth in the high jump.

¢ Free State Meeting: Free State High’s fall sports parents meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the school auditorium. Afterward, parents and students are invited to a Booster Club-sponsored barbecue. For information, call 832-6050.

¢ Phenix U-14 Third: Lawrence Phenix U-14 fast-pitch brought home bronze medals from the State Games of America in Colorado Springs, Colo. Team members are Tracie Weege, Haley Finucane, LeeAnne Pringle, Callie Craig, Anna Mages, Lexi Smith, Jamie Morgison, Courtney Kasson, Kacie Welborn and Madison Oller. Coaches are Bill Finucane and Marv Oller.

¢ Lashbrook Hole-in-One: Janet Lashbrook of Lawrence used a seven-wood to ace the 90-yard No. 2 hole Tuesday at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Mary Ann Willette and Mary Jennings.

¢ KU Fall Baseball Camp: Kansas University baseball coaches will conduct a fall camp and league for high school players for six consecutive weekends starting Aug. 20. For information, call Marcia Bagby at 864-7907 or e-mail mlbagby@ku.edu.

¢ JGC Winners: Gavin Gilchrist and Mike Ordrowski combined for 80 points and won Saturday’s Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar using modified Stableford scoring. Brad Demo and Jerry Garrett were second with 77 points. Two teams shared third with 75s – Boyd Abts and Gary Neal, and Larry Bennett and Keith Wallace.

¢ Hahn Hole-in-One: Bill Hahn of Independence, Mo., used a 6-iron Saturday to ace the 135-yard No. 13 hole at Eagle Bend Golf Course. Witnesses were Eldon Wenger, Rolan Duffield and Larry Leighton.

¢ National Fast-Pitchers: Allie Hock and Jamie Stanclift of Lawrence and Kelsey Epperson of Eudora played on the K.C. Fusion U-18 fast-pitch team that finished ninth in the USSSA Nationals in Kansas City and fifth at the ASA Northern National in Minneapolis.

¢ Soccer Standouts: Lawrence’s Taylor Bussinger, Greg Glatz and Andrew Heck play on the K.C. Comets U-15 soccer team that will compete in the Summit 3-versus-3 Nationals next January in Orlando, Fla.

¢ Track Medalists: Chris Smith and Monica Howard of the Lawrence Track Club earned medals at the USATF Junior Olympic championships in Indianapolis. Smith placed fourth in the boys youth javelin, and Howard was fifth in the girls sub-midget high jump.

¢ Triathlon Qualifier: Katie Barnoskie, a May graduate of Lawrence High, has been selected to participate in Best of the U.S. Triathletes Competition on Aug. 20 in New Hampshire. Barnoskie, 18, will be the youngest of the 100 triathletes representing the 50 states in the event.
