Lawrence staying hot

Get ready for another hot and sticky day.

"By the afternoon, it's going to feel hot, with temperatures headed into the mid 90s," said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

At 7:45 a.m., the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 68, the humidity was 90 percent and winds were northeasterly at 3 mph.

Today's high will climb to 95 degrees, she said. The average high for this date is 91 degrees, with the record high of 114 set in 1934. Winds will be south at 5 to 10 mph.

Clouds will begin building in the afternoon, bringing a slight chance for isolated thunderstorms, she said.

"Most of them will be focused on the front aligning just to the north of us," Schack said.The National Weather Service says the chances for thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight are 20 percents.

Overnight, the low will drop to 70 by early Thursday morning, she said. Thursday's high will reach 96, with southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

Friday's morning low will be 72 degrees, with Friday's high reaching 95 degrees, she said.

She said there is a possibility for some thunderstorms Friday through the weekend.
