Hot, steamy week ahead

Isolated thunderstorms may pop up in p.m.

August 9, 2005

Hot temperatures, steamy humidity and a slight chance for rain -- that's what's in store for Lawrence for the next three days, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

"It looks like a hot Tuesday," Schack said. "We do have the chance for a few isolated thunderstorms today, tomorrow and on Thursday."

At 8 a.m., the temperature was 69 degrees, the humidity was 90 percent, winds were calm and skies were cloudless, but hazy.

"It will be a little bit of a humid afternoon today," Schack said. Cumulus clouds will form this afternoon, bringing the possibility of some isolated thunderstorms, she said.

Today's high is expected to climb to 97 degrees. The average high for this date is 91. The record high is 111 degrees, set in 1934. Winds will be from the south at 5 to 10 mph.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 70 by early Wednesday morning, Schack said Wednesday's high will reach 95, with southerly winds at 5 to 10 mph, she said.

Thursday will be much the same, with the morning low starting at 70 degrees and the afternoon high climbing to 96 degrees, she said.
