Hazy sunshine expected today

Slight chance for isolated thunderstorm

Keep your umbrella handy this afternoon — but mostly for shade. Mostly sunny skies and hot temperatures in the mid 90s will keep Lawrence steamy today and for much of the week.

“It looks like a hot Monday, a hot Tuesday, a hot Wednesday — hot throughout the work week.” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Some cumulus clouds will also develop in the afternoon, providing the ingredients for possible thunderstorms, Schack said. Schack said most of the thunderstorm activity will take place north of the area today.

“One or two isolated thunderstorms could develop in northeastern Kansas,” she said.

At 8 a.m., conditions were sticky, with the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport at 69 degrees and the humidity at 90 percent. Winds were calm, with high clouds dimming the sunshine.

Temperatures will climb through the day to reach a high of 95 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

Tonight’s skies will be mostly clear, with the temperature dropping to a low of 69 by early Tuesday morning.

Tuesday’s high will be 96, with mostly sunny skies and southerly winds 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday’s morning low was 70 degrees, with the high reaching 97 degrees.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 90s through Friday, Schack said.
