Francis Denton will celebrate his 99th birthday Aug. 14 with a gathering of friends and family. He has three daughters, Joanne Finley, Rising Sun, Md.; Judy Tudor, Steam Boat Springs, Colo.; and Cindy Denton, Lawrence. Cards may be sent to him at 417 N. Michigan St., Lawrence 66044.

¢ Zach Elmore has been named a Middlebury College Scholar for the spring term by earning at least a 3.6 grade-point average. Elmore, a student at Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt., is the son of Rosy Elmore, Lawrence.

¢ Ashley Jeffrey, of Free State High School; Shon Price and Rebecca Underhill, of Perry-Lecompton High School; and Jacob Beedle, Whitney Box, James Bruner, Brittany Pittman, Chris Robinson, Andy Schultz and Chris Wolford, of Eudora High School, were selected to participate in the 22nd annual Kansas Masonic All-State High School Marching Band Camp on July 26-30 at Kansas State University. The camp ended with a parade and pre-game and half-time performance at the Kansas East-West Shrine Bowl football game.

¢ Craig Wright, Lawrence, a human services counseling major at East Central University in Ada, Okla., received a certificate as the recipient of the Lowell E. Green Scholarship Award for the 2004-05 academic year. The presentation was made during the annual awards and recognition program hosted by ECU’s human resources department. Wright is the son of Larry and Bobbie Wright.

¢ Marguerite Schumm, Lawrence, made the spring semester dean’s list in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University by earning at least a 3.4 grade-point average. Schumm is a sophomore who is studying art photography.

¢ Melissa Colgan, Lawrence, is the recipient of the 2005 Betty B. and James B. Lambert Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship was based on academics and involvement in Kappa Alpha Theta and the community. Colgan is a member of Delta Eta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta at Kansas State University. Colgan is a graduate of Lawrence High School and K-State. She is a freshman at the Kansas University School of Medicine.
