Despite cloudy skies, temperatures were soaring near 100 degrees this afternoon. And it might just get warmer.

At 3 p.m., the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 99 degrees and the humidity was 35 percent, making the heat index 105 degrees, said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

"We might hit 100, but it's all the same once it gets this hot," Sayers said.

But temperatures will take a dip tonight. Sayers predicted the low will drop to 73 degrees by early Thursday morning.

"It looks like the cold front is stalling out just a tad," Sayers said. It might not bring much in the way of thunderstorms -- "Maybe spotty showers and a few rumbles of Thursday evening into Thursday night."

Thursday's high will be 92, with northerly winds 8 to 15 mph.

Friday's morning low will be 65 degrees, with the high reaching 84 degrees on Friday afternoon, Sayers said.
