Temperatures to steam toward triple digits

The Lawrence area was getting some sporadic sprinkles this morning, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. But by this afternoon, skies will be sunny and temperatures will soar up to near 100 degrees, Schack said.

“On your way out, you might have to flip your windshield wipers to get rid of a few sprinkles. We have the potential to wet that pavement this morning,” Schack said. However, she didn’t expect any measurable amount of rain in the Lawrence area.

At 10:15 a.m., the temperature was 82 degrees and the humidity was 59 percent, with winds from the north at 5 mph. The skies were filled with mid-level clouds this morning. But most of the clouds were expected to move out this afternoon as temperatures soar to 99 degrees, Schack said.

“It’s going to be another hot one,” Schack said.

Winds will be from the south at 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight, skies will remain dry, with the low falling to 73 degrees by early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday’s afternoon high will climb again to 99 degrees, with mostly sunny skies, she said.

A cold front is expected to arrive on Thursday. Thursday’s morning low will be 74 degrees, with the high reaching 88 degrees on Thursday afternoon. Schack said there’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon and on Thursday evening.
