Get set for a few warm days -- the first week of August is bringing afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 90s.

"It looks like another hot one in the forecast," said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. "If you are heading out to the (Douglas County) fair for the next few days, take that water with you."

At 8 a.m. today, it was 73 degrees, with the humidity at 71 percent and the wind out of the east at 6 mph. Today's high will hit 96 by late afternoon, Schack said. The average high is 91 for the first day of August. By the end of the month, the average high will be around 86 degrees, she said.

For the month of July, Lawrence was fairly dry -- the city had only 1.93 inches of rain, with is about 2.08 inches below normal for the month, Schack said.

Winds will be from the south today, at 5-10 mph, with partly cloudy skies.

Tonight, the temperature will drop to a low of 70 degrees by early Tuesday morning, with southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.

On Tuesday, Lawrence's high will reach 96, with southerly winds at 5-10 mph and mostly sunny skies.

On Wednesday, the morning low will be 70, with the high reaching 98 on Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday will bring a chance for afternoon thunderstorms as a front moves through the area. The National Weather Service puts the chance for isolated thunderstorms at 20 percent on Thursday and Thursday night.
