Lubbock, Texas ? Hot-hitting Kansas University will put a six-game softball win streak on the line today against Texas Tech.

“We’ve been swinging the bats awfully well,” KU coach Tracy Bunge said. “Right now, we’re seeing the ball as well as anybody in the conference.”

Game times are 2 p.m. today and noon Sunday at TTU’s Johnson Field.

Kansas (26-19 overall and 5-7 in the Big 12 Conference) hit four round-trippers in a Thursday doubleheader sweep of North Dakota State to bring its total to a school-record 45.

Shortstop Destiny Frankenstein hit her 11th and 12th homers against the Bison to tie the school single-season record. Second baseman Jessica Moppin hit her ninth and tied the school career-HR record (23).

“Records are nice,” Bunge said, “but we’re approaching this weekend no differently than the last two to three months.”

Texas Tech is struggling with a 3-13 league record, but the Red Raiders picked up some momentum at midweek when they stunned No. 6-ranked Texas and ace pitcher Cat Osterman, 2-0, in 10 innings.

“We’re going in respecting Texas Tech,” Bunge said. “They’re playing better.”

Nevertheless, Tech’s pitchers have the worst earned-run average (3.11) among Big 12 teams, and the Red Raiders lead the league in errors.

Bunge most likely will use pitchers Christina Ross (10-6, 1.72 ERA) and Serena Settlemier (12-7, 2.74) in the two-game series, but Kassie Humphreys also may see action.

Humphreys has struggled all spring with her control, but she allowed only two hits in a route-going 3-2 victory over North Dakota State on Thursday.

“I feel like she took a step forward,” Bunge said of Humphreys. “She’s had some confidence issues, but she got into a good rhythm.”
