The Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kan., had an Awards Mass on April 17 at St. Matthew’s Church in Topeka. Scouts of the Pelathe District who earned their Pope Pius XII Medal, which is the highest religious award for Boy Scouts, included Peter Tuttle, Henry Reiske, Brandon Mailand, Michael Bennet and Bryant Denning.

The Bronze Pelican, which is presented to adult leaders for service on the Boy Scout level, went to Bruce Murrish, John Pfeifer, Herbert Tuttle and Jane Tuttle.

Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venture Crew units participated in Scouting for Food on April 23. The Scouts collected about 40,000 pounds of food which was distributed to several food pantries in Lawrence. Lawrence units that participated included: Cub Scout Packs 3051, 3370, 3052, 3059, 3071, 3462, 3058, 3055 and 3057; Boy Scout Troops 59, 60, 61 and 158; and Venturing Crew 2052.

Cub Scout Pack 3071 collected food donations April 23 in the Prairie Park neighborhood. They donated the food to the Salvation Army. Scouts who participated were: Joey Newhouse, William Harnar, Matthew Dominguez, Daniel Wrigley, Isaac Hill, Andrew Dominguez, Patrick Buchanan, Johnaton Kinder and Elijah Cullison.
