Same-sex marriage ballot results verified

? A state constitutional amendment prohibiting same-sex marriage is now the law of the land.

The State Board of Canvassers today approved the results of the April 5 election. The amendment was approved 70 percent to 30 percent. Douglas County was the only county in the state to vote against the proposal.

At the canvassers’ meeting, Atty. Gen. Phill Kline said the amendment would still allow private businesses and governmental entities to extend benefits to same-sex couples if they chose.
