Builders to tout homes on tour

Don’t tell Heath Seitz that the Lawrence housing market is slowing down.

The residential builder is working on 10 new homes in southeast Lawrence, and one’s already sold. Another two went under contract during the past week.

“Things are moving,” said Seitz, owner of Heath Seitz Construction and president of the Lawrence Home Builders Assn. “It’s going to be a pretty hot market this spring.”

The new-home market officially kicks off this weekend, with the association’s Spring Parade of Homes.

This year’s event features 52 homes in Lawrence, Baldwin, Eudora and — new this year — Tonganoxie. It’s the most homes ever featured on the tour, which gives potential buyers and others who are just plain curious to get a peek at the latest homes, styles and features available in the market.

Prices for properties available on the tour range from $140,900 for a townhome in Fairfield Farms West, a subdivision in southeast Lawrence, to $799,950 on Lake Alvamar Drive in western Lawrence.

The parade is from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, May 7 and May 8.

“It’s a buyer’s market,” said Bobbie Flory, director of the 270-member association of builders, suppliers and others in the industry. “There’s a lot of product available right now. It’s a good time for buyers to be out looking.”

The tour books were delivered by mail to county residents during the past week. Extra copies are available at area real estate offices.
