Chance for sprinkles this afternoon

It might look sunny out there this morning. But another cool, blustery day is in store for the Lawrence area, as clouds move in and the wind picks up this afternoon.

“With our clouds thickening up, we do have a chance for a few sprinkles this afternoon,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “It looks like a chilly afternoon — only in the upper 50s.”

At 8:40 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 42 degrees, with northwesterly winds 8 mph and mostly sunny skies. But clouds are moving in from Nebraska later in the day, bringing with them blustery winds and the chance for some precipitation, Schack said.

Today’s high temperature will climb to only 58 degrees, she said. The average high for this date is 71.

Winds will be from the northwest, 10 to 20 mph, gusting to 25 mph, she said.

Tonight’s low will drop to 34 by early Wednesday morning, with northwest winds 3 to 8 mph.

“Make sure you cover up your plants tonight. Some patchy frost is possible,” Schack said.

She said Wednesday’s high will climb to 65, with partly cloudy skies.

Wet weather is expected to move in for a few days, starting early Thursday morning.

Thursday’s morning low will be 43 degrees, with the high reaching 57. There’s a chance for showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Thursday night, she said.
