Rush to judgment

To the editor:

In regards to Roger Powell’s letter regarding the vandalism at Eagle Bend Golf Course, I’m quite amazed at his views. In Mr. Powell’s letter, he asks parents to check their cars for broken headlights, and to ask their “young nonadult what happened.”

Personally, I graduated high school nearly 10 years ago, and I’m still quite offended that Mr. Powell immediately assumes that if there’s damage, it must be the work of “nonadults.”

I’m curious as to why he immediately assumes that it’s “nonadults” that are causing the damage to the course. If we’re going to play on stereotypes, it could just as easily have been a drunken housewife or rowdy college student. Blaming high school students is a fairly knee-jerk reaction.
