Bowling teams ousted

Kansas University’s men’s bowling club won’t repeat as national champion.

The top-seeded Jayhawks were eliminated from the Intercollegiate Bowling Championships with a 4-1 loss to fifth-seeded Newman in the third round of match play on Friday at the Cherry Bowl.

Earlier Friday in the first round of match play, the Jayhawks beat Toledo, 4-3, but fell to Fresno State, 4-2, in the second round.

The KU women fared a little better.

Kansas’ women’s team, seeded 12th, beat fifth-seeded Western Illinois, 4-3, lost to fourth-seeded Morehead State, 4-2, and rebounded to beat 16th-seeded Erie CC, 4-0, in the third round. But the KU women were eliminated with a 4-1 setback to fifth-seeded Western Illinois.
