LCNS Benefit Runs: Lawrence Community Nursery School will stage To the River and Back benefit 5K and 10K runs May 7. The course be through Old West Lawrence, downtown and along the Kansas River levee. Also scheduled is a family fun mile. Heart of a Lion Camps: Lawrence High boys basketball coach Chris Davis will conduct several Heart of a Lion basketball camps this summer. The first camp will be June 6-10. Rebels Win: Kansas Rebels U-10 baseball won the Jump Start Tournament Saturday in Ottawa. Kicking Camp at KU: Pro football Hall of Famer Jan Stenerud will be featured at the Midwest Kicking, Punting and Center Camp July 6-7 on the Kansas University campus. Anderson JGC Winner: Chris Anderson shot a 75 and won the Jayhawk Golf Club’s weekly tournament Saturday at Alvamar Country Club by three strokes over Conrad Roberts. Chad Roesler was third with an 80. In net scoring, Rudy James was low with a 72, followed by Gary Neal, Jeff Miller and Mike Naegele, all with 73s.

Jones, Fernandez Medal: Abby Jones of Lawrence won a gold medal and Melissa Fernandez of Eudora a silver medal in the all-around at the USGA Level 9 gymnastics regional Sunday in Norman, Okla. Both qualified for the USGA Western Nationals May 6-8 in St. Louis.

FSHS Soccer Camps: Free State High soccer coach Jason Pendleton will conduct camps for youths in grades 9-12 May 31 to June 3 and for grades 3-8 on June 6-10. Gold Cup Champs: Lawrence’s Taylor Bussinger, Greg Glatz and Andrew Heck were members of the K.C. Comets U-15 soccer team that won the Gold Cup last weekend in Liberty, Mo.
