Fightin’ Indians salvage split with Park University

Katie Renwick pitched a two-hitter and drove in the go-ahead run with a sixth-inning double as Haskell Indian Nations University defeated Park University, 3-1, to salvage a split of a softball doubleheader Tuesday at Haskell.

The Indians lost the opener, 16-0.

“After you lose a game 16-0, you kind of wonder how your kids are going to respond,” Haskell coach Gary Tanner said, “and they responded well. We talked about being a winner, and they responded. They were winners. They pulled together, made a couple of adjustments and answered the call.”

Amber Tecumseh, Renwick and Tara Bender hit sixth-inning doubles as Haskell broke a 1-all tie.

The Fightin’ Indians (6-18) will play Friday at Bellevue, Neb.
