Another windy day ahead

If you’re walking between classes on Kansas University’s campus today, hang on to your books and papers — winds will be gusting up to 30 mph.

But the wind won’t be quite as strong as it was on Monday afternoon, when gusts were recorded at 37 mph shortly before 4 p.m., said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. Schack said she was out walking at that time at Clinton Lake and “I thought I was going to get blown away.”

About 8:30 a.m. today, winds were from the south at 17 mph and the temperature was starting out at 65 degrees. The eastern part of the state was staying mostly dry for the morning, despite thick clouds, Schack said.

“I think we’ll see peeks of sunshine through the day,” she said.

Today’s high is expected to reach 80 degrees, with south winds 15 to 20 mph, gusting to 30 mph. Tonight’s temperature will drop to a low of 62 by Wednesday morning, with south winds 12 to 18 mph, she said.

Wednesday’s high will climb to 81. There’s a chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday night into Thursday morning, Schack said.

Thursday morning’s low will start at 62, moving up to 74 by Thursday afternoon, with a chance for thunderstorms Thursday afternoon.
