KU softball preparing to play host to Baylor

Now’s as good a time as any for the Kansas University softball team to take on Baylor, a team with a flashy 37-7 record and No. 8 national ranking.

KU (19-16 overall, 2-5 Big 12 Conference) has won three straight heading into today’s tilt, which starts at 2 p.m. at Arrocha Ballpark. The two-game series will conclude with a 1 p.m. game Sunday.

The Jayhawks’ momentum started with a 3-1 victory over Oklahoma State on Sunday, skyrocketed with a 5-3 Border War victory over No. 18 Missouri on Wednesday, then continued with a 6-0 victory Thursday at Southwest Missouri State behind a two-hit shutout by Christina Ross.

Kansas has scored 26 runs in the last five games after scoring just 13 in the previous six. Nettie Fierros has sparked the latest surge, hitting .500 (4-for-8) with eight RBIs during the winning streak.

Today’s game will be the first of three straight crucial Big 12 games for the Jayhawks, who currently sit in a logjam in the lower half of the conference standings.
