Soroptimist International of Lawrence played host to the annual friendship social with other local women’s service clubs. The high tea was April 9 at First Baptist Church. Dottie Nordlund, president-elect of Soroptimist, was in charge of the arrangements. Patricia Micaelis, of the Kansas Historical Society, presented the program “From Sewing To Suffrage: Women’s Club In Kansas.”

Members of Altrusa International and Lawrence Pilot Club were in attendance.

The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club’s April 6 game used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver.

The North-South winners were Phyllis Brownlee and Virginia Eddy, followed by Chris Lane and Charles Hedges. Patt Radford and Suzanne Wassmer placed third followed by Betty Spalsbury and Margarete Hartman.

The East-West winners were Yvonne Hedges and Sally Taylor, followed by Paul Heitzman and David Piro. Catherine Blumenfeld and Lois Clark placed third followed by Nita Scales and Carol Ball.

The Wednesday Evening Bridge Club’s April 6 game was stratified, used the Howell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman.

Jolene Andersen and Ilse Steinhardt placed first in A and B, followed by Don Brennaman and Zack Anthony at second in A. Ann Thompson and Grant Sutton placed third in A, second in B and first in C. Helen Huffman and Robert Huffman were fourth in A.

The Friday Afternoon TGIF Bridge Club’s April 8 game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman.

The North-South winners were Phyllis Brownlee and Virginia Eddy at first in A and B followed by Frances Vogel and Erna Holmes at second in A. Harry Talley and Don Daugherty placed third in A, second in B and first in C followed by Helen Huffman and Robert Huffman at fourth in A, third in B and second in C.

The East-West winners were led by Harry Shaffer and Lois Clark, followed by Eldon Herd and Mary Fenlon. Charles Hedges and Virginia Seaver placed third, followed by Lynn Hui and Catherine Blumenfeld at fourth in A, first in B and in first C. Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks placed second in B and in C.

The North-South winners were John Hickey and Patt Radford, followed by Donna Johnson and David Piro. Phyllis Brownlee and Madelyn Jenks placed third in A and first in B, followed by Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough at fourth in A. Clyde Romer and Steven Phelps placed second in B, followed by Jo Anderson and Ilse Steinhardt at third in B and first in C. Barbara Hamilton and Bill Hamilton were second in C.

The East-West winners were Paul Heitzman and Virginia Seaver, followed by Daniel Osman and Olivier Urruty at second in A, first in B and first C. Harry Shaffer and Terry Tolar placed third in A . Chris Lane and Shirley Reese tied for fourth in A and second in B with Carl Mibeck and Jack Mibeck who also placed second in C.
