Matmen Honored: Baldwin High seniors Luke Halford and Andreas Brandenberger were named first-team academic all-state by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Assn. The Bulldogs’ Josh Kohn earned honorable mention.

KU Soccer Camps: Kansas University’s soccer staff will conduct three camps this summer — May 31-June 3 for boys and girls in grades five and under, June 26-30 for boys and girls in grades 4-12 and July 20-Aug. 3 for girls only. For information, call Kara Lowery at 864-5833.

National Mat Champ: Reece Conklin of Sunflower Kids Wrestling won all five of his matches at the World Wrestling Tournament last weekend in Reno, Nev. Conklin recorded three pins and an 8-5 decision in the semifinals before defeating top-seed Jordan Rogers of Washington in the finals, 5-0. Conklin competes in the U-10 90-pound division.

Soccer Champs: Lawrence’s Taylor Bussinger, Greg Glatz and Andrew Heck are members of the U-15 K.C. Comets soccer team that won the Crossroads Classic in Olathe.

Reichert Nabs Opener: Van Reichert shot a 78 and won the season-opening Jayhawk Golf Club tournament Saturday at Alvamar CC. Runners-up were Conrad Roberts with a 79 and Mike Naegele with an 82. In net scoring, Wayne Dedloff was low with a 71 followed by Kent Hodgson and Stephen Morgan, both with 73s.

Phenix U-10 Second: Lawrence Phenix U-10 softball team finished second in the Phenix Spring Classic. Team members are Bridgette Berry, Kaitlin Jorgensen, Krista Costa, Kennedy Kirkpatrick, McKenzie Oller, Zoe Reed, Lindsay Kelly, Alexa Gaumer, Whitney Rothwell and Elizabeth Seimear.

Cullen Hole-in-One: Matt Cullen used a 6-iron Sunday to ace the par-3, 162-yard, No. 11 hole at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Cary Stronick and Steve Lemon.

Phenix U-14 Champs: Lawrence Phenix won in the U-14 division of Phenix Spring Classic softball tournament last weekend. Team members are Anna Mages, Haley Finucane, Courtney Kasson, Evan Folks, Madison Oller, Bailey Scott, Lexi Smith, Kacie Welborn, Allison Ice, Jamie Morgison and Maddy Wilson. Coaches are Bill Finucane, Lee Ice and Marv Oller.

Rebels Take Title: Kansas Rebels U-12 baseball team won the Legacy Tournament Sunday in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Team members are Colin Toalson, Clay Hamilton, Josh Hoffman, Ty Hensley, Dylan Perry, Drew Sorrick, Shane Pokorney, Jake Johnson, Ross Johnson, Matt Wade and Troy Willoughby. Rod Sharp and Mike Hensley are the coaches.

Runner-Up Rebels: Kansas Rebels U-10 finished second at the USSSA state qualifying baseball tournament Sunday in Topeka. Team members are Matt Baker, Adam Rea, Drake Hofer, Alex Green, Rigby McClure, Drew Green, Stan Skwarlo, Shane Willoughby, Cody Scott, C.J. Stuever, Kyle McFarland, Garrick Clapp and Jacob Caldwell. Coaches are Darren McClure, Joe Caldwell, Kevin Stuever and Mike Willoughby.

Bowman National Champ: Eudora’s Shelby Bowman, a member of Prairie Fire Wrestling Club won a freestyle title at the National Girls Championships. Dottie Housworth of Lawrence earned a reserve championship. PFWC’s Deidre Housworth and Jessica Bowman posted a third place and fourth place respectively.
