Kathryn ‘Irene’ Kolde, Topeka

Mrs. Kolde died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born Nov. 23, 1918, in Elmont, the daughter of John Lloyd and Fairy Belle George Frey. She was a lifelong resident of the Silver Lake and Topeka area.

Mrs. Kolde retired from Southwestern Bell after 30 years of service and was a life member of Topeka Telephone Pioneers. She was a member of North Topeka Baptist Church. She also had attended Sunday school and church services at Bethel Chapel northwest of Topeka for many years.

She married Beryl W. Guffey on Sept. 7, 1939, in Topeka. He died Dec. 12, 1949. She married A.H. Kolde of St. Marys in 1957. They divorced.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas K. Kolde, Silver Lake, and Bruce W. Guffey, Lawrence; a daughter, Bonnie I. Adams, Topeka; three sisters, Dorothy Root, Doris Prochaska and Helen Kirkwood, all of Topeka; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

A son, Dennis Guffey, died earlier.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will meet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
