Softball edges OSU

? Kansas University freshman Christina Ross struck out nine in the Jayhawks’ 3-1 Big 12 Conference softball victory Sunday over Oklahoma State.

Ross (6-5) allowed an earned run off five hits in the full seven innings to help KU pick up its first league victory this season.

Kansas (17-16, 1-5) scored its runs on two hits in the second inning. Ashley Goodrich reached on a fielder’s choice, and Serena Settlemier walked with one out. Nettie Fierros tripled to right-center to score two, and she later scored on a single by Jackie Vasquez.

The Cowgirls (28-13, 3-4) scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Shanel Scott reached on a catching error by Jessica Moppin and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A base hit by Megan Carey scored Scott, but Ross was able to strike out the last two batters with the bases loaded to end the inning.

The Jayhawks will travel Wednesday to Missouri.
