Lorena Alma Shoup Abbott, Lawrence

Services for Lorena Alma Shoup Abbott, 90, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Abbott died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at her home.

She was born Oct. 11, 1914, in Hoyt, the daughter of Chester E. and Lillie Renfro Shoup. She lived most of her life in Eudora and moved to Lawrence in 2001.

She worked at the Hercules Powder Plant for several years and was a waitress at various restaurants, including Jim’s Steak House. She also worked at the Eudora Nursing Center until her retirement in 1979.

Mrs. Abbott was a longtime member of First Southern Baptist Church and the Golden Age of Eudora. She also was a member of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence, and she worked with Vacation Bible School.

She married Winfred H. “Winnie” Abbott on Aug. 21, 1948, in Topeka. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Virginia Bourgeault, Palm Bay, Fla., and Geraldine Coleman and Norma “Jeanne” Torneden, both of Lawrence; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Donald E. Campbell and Gerald R. Campbell, died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
