Hamby services

Services for Edgar J. “Ted” Hamby, 84, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawnee. Burial will follow in Bonner Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Hamby died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence.

He was born Aug. 25, 1920, in Shouns, Tenn., the son of Avery and Bessie Triplett Hamby. He moved to a family farm near Linwood in 1951. He also lived in Bonner Springs and for a short time in the Shawnee area.

Mr. Hamby served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bonner Springs for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and Union Pacific Old Timers Club.

He married Helen Schubert in January 1947. She died in 1967. He married Louise Braun in June 1968. She died in January 2000.

An infant son, John Wade, died earlier.

Survivors include a daughter, Dianna Lynne McKenzie, Lawrence; a sister, Beulah Mullin, Lafayette, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and recite a rosary from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs.
