Arch James Herron Jr., Lawrence

Arch James Herron Jr., 92, Lawrence, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Inurnment will be at a later date in Cartwright Cemetery in Wichita.

He was born Feb. 4, 1913, in Enid, Okla., the son of Arch J. Sr. and Hazel Martha Macey Herron. He attended Wichita University, where he played football and was a member of the U.S. Army ROTC.

Mr. Herron served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the 7th Fleet in the South Pacific. He owned and operated Herron’s Grocery Store, Mary Carter Paints in 1960 and Herron’s Cafe in 1963, all in Wichita. He retired from Cessna in 1983 after 20 years. He was a member of Wichita Masonic Lodge and Keystone High 12 Club. He was also a Boy Scout leader and active member of Epworth Methodist Church in Wichita, where he taught Sunday school.

He married Lois Belle Cartwright on Aug. 25, 1935, in Wichita. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Barry, McKinney, Texas; a daughter, Vicki Maykulsky, Lawrence; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Shriners Hospitals for Children, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
