Vaughn out for season

? Jacque Vaughn of the New Jersey Nets sustained a season-ending injury during Saturday night’s game, breaking a bone in his right foot early in the first quarter against the Orlando Magic.

The seven-year veteran out of Kansas University, who has started 34 games this season at shooting guard, was experiencing pain in his foot before the game but decided to play.

Vaughn ran off the court after fracturing the fifth metatarsal two minutes into the first quarter and was replaced by Travis Best.

“I just made a cut on the defensive end of the floor and I felt the pop, so I knew,” Vaughn said.

Vaughn was averaging 5.3 points and 1.9 assists per game for New Jersey, which dropped to 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings after a 103-102 loss.

Vaughn will have surgery next week to have a screw inserted in his foot.
