Giants’ Bonds on DL

The San Francisco Giants placed Barry Bonds on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, the third time the slugger has been on the DL in his career.

The move was retroactive to March 25. Bonds, who will begin his 20th major-league season, is recovering from two operations on his troublesome right knee in a seven-week span, the latest March 17.

Bonds has been rehabilitating his knee in San Francisco and isn’t sure when he’ll return to resume his quest for the career home-run record.

While the Red Sox prepared for tonight’s opener against the New York Yankees, ace Curt Schilling said he likely would make his season debut April 13 against the Yankees at Fenway Park. At Fort Myers, Fla., Schilling pitched the equivalent of 81/3 innings in a minor-league intrasquad game.

Teams made a flurry of roster moves to get to the 25-man active limit by the midnight EST deadline. Among those brought up from minor-league rosters were Minnesota left-hander Terry Mulholland, Cincinnati infielder Rich Aurilia and utilityman Jacob Cruz, Florida right-hander Brian Moehler and infielder Lenny Harris, Houston right-hander Russ Springer, Milwaukee infielder Jeff Cirillo, New York Mets reliever Roberto Hernandez and San Francisco left-hander Jeff Fassero.
