Food can foster romantic workout

Chocolate tops list of libido boosters

Today’s lesson: chowing down to get it on, and getting it on to work it off.

Some food is inherently sensual, renowned for its power to ramp up the libido. On the other hand, eating food that’s good for you can have the same effect; the healthier you are, the more energy you have. But that’s so boring.

Now repeat after me: Love begins and ends with chocolate.

And remember — any food can be sexy if you use somebody else’s body as a plate.

Note the extensive use of honey, also popular with ancient Egyptians and medieval Romeos.

“It’s sticky and gooey and sweet and golden — it has innate sensuality,” says Martha Hopkins, author of “InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook.”

“The Perfumed Garden,” an Arabian love manual, suggests treating impotence by consuming a glass of thick honey, 20 almonds and 100 pine nuts for three nights.

Nicknamed nature's Viagra, asparagus was voted the third sexiest food, after strawberries and chocolate, according to the London Evening Telegraph.

Strawberries are considered an ideal food to have someone eating out of your hand. Maybe it’s the bright red color, the juiciness or the intoxicating smell — whatever it is, strawberries top the list of sensual fruit. Dip them in chocolate and double the pleasure, double the fun.

Which brings us to the Big C.

Chocolate is chock-full of lovey-dovey chemicals that make you feel like you’re back in lust. It’s the No. 1 food craved by U.S. women, edged out only by pizza for men. Americans eat 3.1 billion pounds a year, according to the Chocolate Manufacturer’s Assn., an average of about 12 pounds per person.

Here’s an unlikely love drug: asparagus, nicknamed “nature’s Viagra” by asparagus farmers and hopeful vegetarians.

Asparagus was voted the third-sexiest food after strawberries and chocolate, according to the London Evening Telegraph, although the story forgot to mention exactly who did the voting.

Besides asparagus and strawberries, the list includes bananas, carrots, figs, oysters and mussels.
