— Former Kansas University basketball player Darnell Valentine has interviewed for the position of director of player development with the Portland Trailblazers.

The other finalists to replace Jerome Kersey are former NBA players Steve Johnson, Billy McKinney and Mitchell Lee.

A Blazers official told the Oregonian newspaper no announcement was imminent because the hiring process was "still ongoing."

Valentine, 42, has been in New York representing the Blazers at a league meeting of player development representatives.

Valentine, who will have his jersey number hung in the rafters of Allen Fieldhouse at a ceremony this season, worked as a regional representative for the NBA Players Assn. last year. He also owns a restaurant in Portland.

Former Kansas University player Kevin Pritchard recently was hired as the Blazers' director of player personnel.
