Malcolm Doyle Miller, 18, was approved by the board examiners on Aug. 31 to be given the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouting. He is a member of Troop 61. His court of honor will take place in October.
Malcolm’s Eagle Scout project was a covered bench at the off-leash dog park at Clinton Lake. He has attended Camp Alexander in Colorado and Camp Theodore Naish Scout Reservation near Bonner Springs.
He attends Lawrence High School, where he is active in band and photography. He was crowned Homecoming king on Sept. 17.
He is the son of Martin Miller and Marcia Miller, both of Lawrence.

The Pelathe District will honor more than 35 Scouts who earned their Eagle Award this past year during its 19th annual recognition dinner Oct. 14 at the Lawrence Country Club. James Terry, Scout executive for the Heart of America Council, will be the guest speaker. Each of the new Eagles will receive special recognition from the Sons of the American Revolution and the Kansas National Guard. Cub Scout Pack 3370, chartered to the Deerfield School PTA, attended Webelos Woods Weekend Sept. 17-19 at Camp Bromelsick.
During the campout, Cubs developed their skills in archery, rope bridge building, first aid, cooking and fire building. They also participated in an obstacle course relay race, scavenger hunt and a campfire. Martha Parker, of the Clinton Lake Museum, gave the Scouts a presentation on area history. Scouts who attended were Callan Anderson, Jamie Braden, Tyler Hanson, Nathan Porter and Justin Yankee. Adult leaders Scott Braden, Dan Porter and Len Hanson also attended.

Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to the West Side Presbyterian Church, participated in a Muzzleloaders camp Sept. 17-19 near Frankfort.
The Scouts learned about fur trading and other history of the early 1800s. They competed in black powder gun competitions. Jeremy Woodhead placed first in the U-12 Beginner Division, Kevin Cottrell placed third in the U-18 Advanced Division and adult leader Scott Woodhead placed first in the Adult Beginner Division. Scouts who attended were David Hanson, Jacob Christilles, Aaron Groene, Steven Dalager, Justin Robertson, James Murphy, Jeremy Woodhead, Joe Vannicola, Grady Walker, Kevin Cottrell, Newt Heston, Kiefer Gibler, Kameron Gibler and Aaron Lauredson. Adult leaders who accompanied them were Jim Peterson, Deb Vannicola, Bob Gibler and Scott Woodhead.
