Those who loved the 1953 romantic comedy “Roman Holiday” will recognize “First Daughter” as a tame updating of this tale. Katie Holmes stars as the president’s only child, who leaves the White House for her first semester of college. When the pressures of inflexible schedules and invasive media exposure become too much, she finds a confidant and potential boyfriend in a hunky resident assistant.

Also opening is “The Forgotten,” which combines a “Twilight Zone” tale of identity loss with an “X-Files”-type episode about shadowy government conspiracies. Julianne Moore portrays a grieving yet intrepid mother whose son died in a plane crash, only to be presented with mounting evidence that the child never existed. Who could be behind this bizarre cover-up?

I blame the media, and I’m Jon Niccum with Screen Scene.
