Norman R. Shannon

? Services for Norman R. Shannon, 81, Iola, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Iola. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Wellsville Cemetery.

Mr. Shannon died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at his home.

He was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Wellsville, the son of Frank Robert and Laura Florence Nolker Shannon. He grew up in Wellsville, and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1941. He moved to Humboldt in 1967 and to Iola in 1991. He attended Kansas University for three years.

Mr. Shannon served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II. He managed Hostetler Hardware Store in Wellsville for 20 years. He served as an officer and director of Humboldt National Bank for 25 years and retired in 1988. He raised Limousin cattle for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Iola, American Legion and Masonic Lodge in Wellsville. He served on numerous agricultural boards in the area.

He married Mary Lou Dorsey on Feb. 14, 1943, in Wellsville. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, David R., Humboldt; a daughter, Nancy C. Trober, Eudora; a brother, Gail Shannon, Irvine, Calif.; a sister, Lois Kennedy, Tulsa, Okla.; three grandsons; and a great-grandson.
