Huhtamaki to add jobs at De Soto plant
A new product for a major fast-food chain will add between 13 and 15 jobs at Huhtamaki Americas plant in De Soto.
The packaging company, formerly known as SealRight, said Wednesday that it had chosen its De Soto plant to produce a new packaging product for a fast-food company. Finnish-based Huhtamaki wouldn’t release the name of the chain or details about the new product line.
The company manufactures a variety of paper cups, containers, lids and other tableware for the food service industry.
The new jobs are expected to have an average salary of between $18,000 and $20,000 per year. Penny Staats, a spokeswoman for the company, said a timeline for adding the positions hadn’t been released.
The new product line won’t require an expansion of the 400,000-square-foot plant, which is along Kansas Highway 10, but will require up to $2 million in new equipment. The plant currently has 350 employees.
