Mike Brady

? Services for Mike Brady, 57, Ottawa will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Ottawa.

Mr. Brady died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at University of Kansas Hospital.

He was born June 7, 1947, in Parsons, the son of Lou H. and Ruth E. Purkey Brady. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1965 and attended Fort Scott Junior College and Ottawa University. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident.

Mr. Brady ran the first Pizza Hut in Ottawa and later became a concrete flatwork man. For the last eight years he was a deputy sheriff for Franklin County.

He was a member of Ottawa Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 803, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge No. 2700, Lawrence Eagles Men’s Club, Ottawa Country Club Board, Kansas Sheriff’s Assn. and Kansas Golf Assn. He was a high school football referee for 15 years and coached church league basketball.

He married Marsha Howell in 1965. They later divorced. He married Sharon Russell on Oct. 30, 1982, in Ottawa. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Todd and Brett, both of Ottawa, and Scott, Lawrence; two daughters, Sandra Zook, Garnett, and Stacy Sykes, Hominy, Okla.; two brothers, Tim, Wichita, and Ron, Ottawa; five sisters, Pat Haworth, Sharon Thompson, Mary Brady and Peg McFadden, all of Ottawa, and Kathleen Brady, Lawrence; and eight grandchildren.

A son, Robert, and a daughter, Debra Russell, died earlier.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. today to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
