Joseph Tubbs Sr.

Services for Joseph Tubbs Sr., 76, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Victory Bible Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Tubbs died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born Sept. 2, 1928, in Calhoun City, Miss., the son of Llwylon L. and Susan Lee Sims Tubbs. He attended school in Mississippi. In 1965 he moved from Glen Allen, Miss., to Lawrence.

Mr. Tubbs was ordained as a deacon in the Church of God in 1963 in Hollandale, Miss. He worked for Sunflower Ammunition, Lawrence Paper Co., DeCarlo Construction and Northern Pipeline Construction Co. in Kansas and Wisconsin. He was a member of Laborers Local Union No. 1290 AFL-CIO in Lawrence and the union’s Milwaukee chapter.

He married Vivian Lee Galloway on Feb. 21, 1948, in Arcola, Miss. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include five daughters, Mattie L. Adelaja, Houston, Gloria D. Tubbs, Topeka, Jacqueline Boggs, Orange, Calif., and Vivian D. Nelson and Dorothy A. Hall, both of Lawrence; six sons, Joseph Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Huey P. and Michael L., both of Lawrence, Timothy and Johnny R., both of Washington D.C., and James E., Houston; three sisters, Mollie M. Williams and Anna Lou Tubbs, both of Greenville, Miss., and Kennie S. Anderson, Cleveland; two brothers, George, Milwaukee, and Leonard, Florida; 20 grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Four sons, David, Ronnie, S.T. and Larry, died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the Joseph Tubbs Sr. Memorial Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
