Jayhawks keeping busy

Kansas University’s basketball players have not been idle since their Labor Day-weekend trip to Canada. They have been participating in individual workouts with coaches and playing in unsupervised pickup games.

Senior Keith Langford, who is coming off offseason right knee surgery and had knee soreness in Canada, has not been playing, but has been rehabilitating.

“They (trainers) are keeping him off his feet for now, staying away from the constant pounding,” KU coach Bill Self said. “They are working him, rehabbing. He’s right on schedule as to what he’ll do. He’ll be more than ready for Late Night (Oct. 15).”

Darnell Jackson (arthroscopic surgery on right ankle, Sept. 7) likely will return to action by the end of this week. Sophomore guard Jeremy Case, who has a groin pull, “is about the same. He’s not responded great to treatment. Hopefully he’ll start playing next week,” Self said.

Junior Jeff Hawkins, who was suspended Aug. 23 for undisclosed behavior issues, is not taking part in workouts. Self, who has been on the road recruiting the past couple of weeks, said he had “not yet made a final decision” on Hawkins’ status.
