Seahawks 1-2 at Hartford

? Seabury Academy’s volleyball team overcame an injury to junior setter Laura Hoffmann to win its third match Saturday at the Hartford Invitational.

After losing to Northern Heights, 25-20, 25-20, and Royal Valley, 25-19, 25-18, the Seahawks (7-5) rallied for a 25-18, 25-22 victory over Jayhawk-Linn. Trailing 22-21, foreign exchange student Livia Shi served the last four points to win the final game.

Elise Stella replaced Hoffmann, who twisted her ankle against Royal Valley, and was 15-of-16 serving and had two kills. Laura Frizell had six aces and eight kills, and Molly Thurman contributed 12 kills.

“When you lose a starting player at our size of school during a match, it’s really hard because we replace a junior who’s played three years with a ninth-grader,” Seabury coach Craig Friedrichsen said. “In our case, the ninth-grader really played a nice match after that, but it’s hard.”

“Winning the last match of the day, that was really important. We served well, hit well and played a really solid match after that.”

Seabury will travel Tuesday to Kansas City Barstow.
