Veritas suffers first loss, 58-22

? Veritas Christian’s football winning streak had to end, and St. Joseph (Mo.) Christian made it happen, 58-22.

A 22-point outburst by St. Joe in the second quarter was too much for the Eagles to overcome.

“They were really fired up and ready to play,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “Not that we weren’t, but they just played at a higher level than we did.”

Veritas quarterback Casey Woods completed 15 of 22 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown. Mark Randtke caught 10 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown, and Jesse Schultz rushed 16 times for 93 yards.

“Our guys never did give up,” Bennett said. “They fought on every single play, and we have a lot to be proud of. We’ll learn a lot from this game.”

The Eagles (3-1) play host Sept. 25 to Wichita Trinity at Westwick Rugby Complex.
