Wet weather boosts quality statewide
The state’s corn harvest is moving at a slower-than-average pace, but the quality of the crop is greatly improved from a year ago, according to a report from the Kansas Agriculture Statistics Service.
The agency reported Monday that 13 percent of the state’s corn crop has been harvested, down from 30 percent a year ago.
But the wet weather that has slowed the pace of harvest has produced a healthy crop. The agency reported that 77 percent of the crop is either good or excellent. A year ago, 52 percent of the crop was rated as either poor or very poor.
The state’s soybean crop also is thriving.
It is rated as 76 percent good or excellent, compared with 52 percent that was poor or very poor a year ago.
