Mary Margaret Williams

? Services for Mary Margaret Williams, 93, Baldwin, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin. Internment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin.

Ms. Williams died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 13, 1911, in Fort Scott, the daughter of William John and Maud Kilburn Williams. She grew up in Chanute, Bonner Springs and Baldwin. She graduated from Baldwin High School, and from Baker University in 1934 with bachelor’s degrees in math and English. She earned a master’s in guidance and psychology in 1961 from Kansas University.

Ms. Williams taught for a year at Union Town and a year in Rantoul. She taught junior high school, senior high school and junior college in Arkansas City. She served as director at Cowley County Community College. She was a leader and visionary behind Cowley Institute of Lifetime Learning.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Baldwin and a former member of the church in Arkansas City. She also was a member of Kansas Education Assn., Delta Kappa Gamma, Order of Eastern Star and Phi Mu sorority at Baker.

She is survived by two nephews, John Williams, Lawrence, and Jim Williams, Baldwin; and a niece, Jeanne Doege, Wichita.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
