Clarine ‘Clare’ Smissman

Inurnment services for Clarine “Clare” Smissman, 78, Orlando, Fla., will be in Pioneer Cemetery at Kansas University.

Mrs. Smissman died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, in Orlando.

She was born July 22, 1926, in St. Louis, the daughter of Alex and Lillian Feir. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and a law degree from Kansas University, where she was on Law Review. She also earned a master’s degree in business administration at KU. She lived in Chicago for five years, Madison, Wis., for five years and moved to Lawrence in 1961.

She practiced law part-time in Baldwin and taught part-time at Baker College. She worked for two to three years at a law office in Florida before opening an office of her own, where she practiced until 2001.

Mrs. Smissman was a member of Kansas Bar Assn., Florida Bar Assn., Florida Ninth Judicial Circuit Court, Florida Executive Women and Mensa.

She married Edward Smissman in 1951. He died July 15, 1974. She married William Robinson in 1990. He died in 1999.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Feir, St. Louis.

The family suggests memorials to Edward and Clarine Smissman Endowment Fund, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
